I meant to get this post out a few days ago, but it turns out that Verizons Mobile Hotspot has bordered on uselessness. I think I finally got it figured out, so expect a few more updates over the next day or two.
When we got wind of a Memorial Day Weekend summer kickoff with a bunch of families from Claire’s kindergarten at the YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch Yurt Village there was no question in our minds this took priority over any start to our road trip, so we packed the trailer up and left it at home for a few days. The whole weekend was non stop fun. Between group activities, the kids spent time in the woods building a teepee while the adults relaxed. Claire reports it was the best weekend of her life.
Immediately upon arrival on Saturday afternoon we kicked everything off with a 2.5 mile round trip hike to a pretty little waterfall. The kids all did great with minimal complaining. Peer pressure for the win! We also had a chance to see some really impressive beaver dams along the way (sorry no photos). We settled into our yurt, had a big group dinner, and then it was s’more time.
Sunday was a day full of summer tubing with everyone, then Annie and Claire went for a horseback ride, while Rob and I played a beautiful round of disc golf before another group dinner and more s’mores.
The setting was stunning, and the company superb. Despite the adventures to come over the next few months this weekend will be a highlight of the summer. We have been told over and over again that once Claire got into school we were going to make a bunch of new friends. This has definitely proven true, with Annie and I sometimes feeling like we hit the neighborhood jackpot. In the last year we have had the chance to get to know many new families in our community, and we foresee many years of adventurous family get-togethers.

Our kids say it was the best weekend of their life too. Needs to be an annual tradition without a doubt. And we of course had an amazing time hanging with all the adults!

It really was fantastic. Huge props to Sam and Christian for organizing it.
