It was a slow start to the day with Claire sleeping until 9:00 AM, but we eventually made it to the river by about 11:00 for our 7 mile canoe journey down the Buffalo River. It is a mellow river in this stretch, with only periodic rapids and the occasional tree branch to maneuver around.
The company we rented our canoe from told us it takes 4- 6 hours, but it quickly became obvious that this was if you mostly just floated. The water is still quite low, and because we were concerned Claire would lose her patience we paddled our way through. It took us about 3 hours with a few stops sprinkled in. She didn’t seem so interested in the majestic bluffs that Annie and I awed at, but she enjoyed looking for fish, swimming, her first rope swing, and an opportunity to show some scared adults how to jump off rocks into the river.

Awesome. Can’t believe Claire jumped off that cliff!

She was a little nervous, but did it. She was then mad when we said she couldn’t do it again. Which if we are honest was only because we didn’t want to have to paddle back up stream to the place where you could climb back up. #lazyparents
